On behalf of Ross Library Development Group, the Chair, Jan Falkiner, together with Steve Jones, Librarian, accepted from Lisa, Mervyn James’s daughter, with pleasure and grateful thanks, the very generous donations made in celebration of Mervyn’s life.
Jan told the Ross Gazette “Mervyn was such an inclusive part of the Ross Community for over fifty years, with his business and his many friendships.
“Mervyn was a great story teller, and also a good listener, which encouraged the sharing of many stories and tales from others over the years. He was a great champion of Ross Library and a very close friend of Dennis Potter, and Mervyn welcomed the continuation of the memory of his friend through the Dennis Potter room in the recent re-configuring of the library.
“Mervyn’s family thus felt it fitting that the donations so generously given should go towards Ross Library in that spirit of celebration - because what is a library if not a place to share stories.”
Well-known in Ross-on-Wye, living and working at the shop which bore his name in Broad Street, Mervyn died on April 29th, 2017.
The next talk in the Ross Library Development Group series is on Tuesday, October 17th at 7pm for 7.30pm given by Andrew Anderson, famed Wildlife Photographer.
