FANCY feeling haunted this Halloween but don’t want to spend a pretty penny on ghost hunts?
The frugal gurus at Promotional Codes have put together a list of the spookiest places you can visit this Halloween completely free.
Here are the top ten.
1. Borley Rectory, Essex
Named as ‘the most haunted house in England’ by paranormal investigator Harry Price. Just some of the horrors that witnesses have seen, include the ghost of a nun, a phantom carriage and two headless horsemen.
2. Pendle Hill, Lancashire
The villages, fields and buildings surrounding Pendle Hill are notoriously known for being haunted, due to the 12 witches that lived there in the 17th century. Many people often report feeling angry or hurt when visiting the grounds.
3. Pluckley Village, Kent
This quaint village in Kent is supposedly filled with around 12-16 ghosts. The most famous ghost is called the ‘screaming man’. Other ghosts include a highway man, a red lady and school master.
4. Epping Forest, Essex
Spooky stories from Epping Forest include the ghost of the famous Dick Turpin, terrifying screams that have been heard on Hangman’s Hill, and a ghost of a young girl near a local pub.
5. Hawkins Hall Lane, Hertfordshire
This lane sits on top of an old Roman road, so many people believe it to be very spooky. A few visitors have claimed to have seen a headless old woman with a hunch back, wearing all black clothing.
6. Rowton Moor, Chester
One of the sites that suffered the worst death tolls during the English Civil War. It has been reported that you can see ghosts on horseback and hear faint sounds of music.
7. Blue Bell Hill, Kent
The ghost of a woman who died in a tragic car accident in 1965 supposedly haunts this hill. There has been reports of people seeing her jump in front of cars and in the form of a female hitchhiker.
8. Edge Hill, Warwickshire
The Battle of Edgehill was the first battle of the English Civil War, where almost 30,000 soldiers fought. People who have visited the area have claimed to hear haunting screams and battle cries. These are heard at night and are usually around the anniversary of the battle, which is October 23rd, 1642.
9. Bradley Woods, Lincolnshire
The Black Lady of Bradley Woods is a ghost who is supposedly young, pretty and dressed in a long black cloak. It is rumoured that if you visit the woods at night time you will see her.
10. Culloden Moor, Inverness
The last ever battle in Britain was the Battle of Culloden in 1746. Many people have witnessed cries of wounded soldiers and steel weapons.
