Madam, What a treat we had at St Mary's Church on May 19th. If you weren't there you missed a gem. We were entertained by the Good Lovelies, a three-girl group from Toronto, as part of a brief tour of the UK. They sang lovely songs, mostly of their own composition, and played a mandolin, banjo, bass guitar, acoustic guitar, electric guitar and hand-held percussion adeptly swapping instruments between themselves for each song. They sang two songs 'unplugged', one of them being Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah' and, apart from the sound of their singing, you could have heard a pin drop as the audience appreciated their pure harmonies in the acoustics of the church. They also regaled us with amusing anecdotes between their songs which added to the total enjoyment of the evening. Do visit the Good Lovelies website at http://www.goodlovelies.com">www.goodlovelies.com where you will see details of their latest CD, some songs from which they sang at the concert. I think I can confidently say, on behalf of everyone who was there, a big thank you to Rev Sarah Jones and Ross Roots for organising the evening.
