MADAM, I agree with Pamela Berg [Letters, March 16th] that people should complete the census truthfully. If they are atheists, they should tick the box saying No Religion, but if they hold Christian beliefs, they should tick the box saying Christian. Pamela Berg suggests that people in the last census ticked the Christian box wrongly. People must tick what is true for them, and the bulk of people in these islands still have some Christian belief, thank God.
To suggest that non-religious persons are discriminated against is a very odd statement. They have complete freedom of belief. At present it is more likely to be Christians who are discriminated against. The ethos of the British way of life is based on the the Christian gospel, so people must say they are Christians if that is how they feel.
I find the idea of militant atheism very odd. An atheist has no belief in God, that is their right. But to be militant and try to impose non-belief on others is very odd.
For Christians, the motivation in life must be a relationship with Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the evidence for God. I know of no evidence whatsoever that there is no God.
Now someone will say, "He would say that, wouldn't he?" The answer is yes.
