This weekend Ross Juniors men prepared for their first competitive action of any kind since the disappointment of narrowly missing out on top spot in last season's Herefordshire division 2 south.

Ross lined up against a new team curiously named Norfolk Athletic. It took only three minutes for Will Barker, Ross' player of 2010/2011, to open up his account, nodding in a cross from debutant Harry Hall. From here the onslaught began. Luckily for Norfolk striker Luke Gray had left his shooting boots at home along with his shin pads as he missed a few good chances. It took Juniors 30 minutes more of dominant football before adding to the tally. A tidy pull back from Luke Gray set up Chris Davies to slot home from close range. A real treat was provided 35 minutes into the second half as centre back Sam Loftus showed some magic footwork as he ghosted past three players to power towards the goal. Just before the half time whistle burly centre back Tom Burford reminded the home fans just how dangerous he is coming forward for set pieces. He used his size and strength to beat the opposition's defenders to the ball and head home from close range.

The second half flew by with Norfolk offering nothing in way of opposition. Their only shot of the game a long -range hopeful that limped past stand-in keeper Joe Loftus's post for a goal kick. Late in the second half Ross welcomed back Leighton Hall who missed much of last season. He looked calm and provided crunching challenges when called into action. Juniors came close to adding a fourth very late on after Kev Trotman volleyed just over the bar. The Eagle Inn man of the match award went to Harry Hall who slotted into the team impressively. Manager Jim Loftus was pleased with the performance but is aware that Ross should prepare themselves for much tougher tests this year.
