Ross Juniors Under 7s played their first tournament, held at the Usk Showground on Sunday. Ross fielded eleven players, and really acquitted themselves well against travelling teams with much bigger squads to call on. It was a super end to a fantastic first season.

Pitched against top teams in the first two matches Lymm and Beaconsfield (who went on to the final) Ross lost by narrow margins with a couple of tries disallowed by a keen referee. Excellent use of space and turn of speed by George Merrett and Jamie Harris both scoring tries, kept a win within reach and determined tagging from William Chinn, Felix Newey and Evie Clarke meant that the other side had to fight hard to break through.

Ross kept things tight for the third match against Caerleon who only won by one try after more startling runs by George and Louis Howells and a determined try by Josh Gowling kept Ross in the game. Determined support and tagging was shown by Emma Chinn who was never far away from the action.

By the final game against Usk Ross had really warmed up and were determined not to be beaten eventually winning 6-5 in a ding-dong battle. George (2), Louis, Jamie, Ivor Harrington and Ethan Rees all scored well earned tries for Ross.

Ross Junior Rugby Club's Open Day is on Sunday June 12th at 10 am at the playing fields at Ross Sports Centre.
