Madam, At the Town Meeting on April 21st it was reported that the Town Council is authorised to make grants up to £1000 to community groups for the benefit of the town. If this statement is correct then why was the sum of £3500 awarded to Ross Bowls Club for the construction of two Petanque 'pistes' (pitches to the unitiated)?

The Bowls Club is a private members club and it is not possible for a member of the public to play Petanque at the club. I was not aware of this until a visitor to the town recently told me that he had tried to play at Crossfields but had been turned away as he was not a member.

Surely any award authorised by the Town Council should be for the benefit of all. An explanation from the Council is surely required!
