Ross Town Council intends to write to Herefordshire Council to recommend refusing the Tesco planning application to build a store in Ross.

Cllr Jane Roberts said that they were objecting to the design and to the siting of the petrol station being unnecessarily close to residential developments.

Cllr Roberts said: "We have taken representations from all people in the town and carried out a site visit. At the site visit we took further representations from the residents of Rudhall Meadow and Brookfield.

A report circulated among Town Councillors says: "In principle, the committee is not opposed to a large supermarket on this site."

However, Ross Town Council suggested a re-design, moving the petrol station, and urged Herefordshire Council to place conditions on any planning permission given now, or in the future.Ross Town Councillor Phil Cutter, who chairs the Herefordshire Council Planning Committee, said he envisaged bringing the Tesco application to the Herefordshire Council planning meeting in October.Opinion in Ross seems to be firmly divided regarding the possible new Tesco store.
