Young people and volunteers from the Sea Cadets Corps gathered in Lydney, Gloucestershire on Sunday October 23rd, to mark the anniversary of Nelson’s victory at Trafalgar in 1805.

The parade included almost 200 cadets from units in Gloucester, Cheltenham, Hereford, Ross-on-Wye, Malvern, Tewksbury, Thornbury, Worcester, Stroud and the Forest of Dean, which hosted the event.

Mike Chard, Commanding Officer of TS Royal Forest, told the Ross Gazette that he was pleased to see so many dedicated cadets - and parents - so early on a Sunday morning.

“Children have come from across the region to mark this day and to understand its importance not just in history, but to our modern navy and the Sea Cadets too,” he said.

Trafalgar Day is the celebration of the victory won by the Royal Navy, commanded by Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson, over the combined French and Spanish fleets at the Battle of Trafalgar on October 21st, 1805.

The parade was accompanied by the Lydney Air Cadets band and a colour guard from the Royal British Legion, and was attended by Dame Janet Trotter, Lord Lieutenant of Gloucester.
