After retirement, horticulturist, Roy Rogers, had more time to notice the area around him. He lives by the stream which runs behind Ross Swimming Pool and the corrugated metal fencing which was painted with a mural several years ago.

Roy began by clearing rubbish, undergrowth and weeds, then he started adding soil, plants and other items as he could afford them.

Roy does car boot sales to raise funds and he is also grateful for the donation of plants he has already received. He would be grateful if anyone has a pair of size 11 waders they no longer need so that he can continue his work up to the bridge.

Roy would really like to start work on the area around the totem pole but he said this is a bigger job.

Roy added: “This is one of the main ways for people coming into the town, it should be a welcoming place, it needs looking after.”See the full story in this week’s edition of the Ross Gazette, or subscribe to our online edition here
