In the face of the threatened closure of Tudorville Youth Centre, Ross Town Council is determined to find a new home for Tudorville Boxing Club.
The suggestion is that the Club should return to the Y-Zone in Hill Street if the planned closure goes ahead in March. The Boxing Club was one of the sports clubs controversially evicted from the Hill Street club in 2005 when the Y-Zone refurbishments took place.
At the meeting of Ross Town Council on Monday, the Mayor, Councillor John Edwards, said that the history of the treatment of the sports clubs over Y-Zone was not very palatable. He said both the Sports Federation and the Town council were trying to help save Tudorville Sports Centre.
Councillor Jenny Hyde, who is Herefordshire Council member for Children's Services, said that two surveys had determined that the Youth Club would have to close in March, she said: "Y-Zone is under-used, especially the main hall. It is important that we don't lose the young people who box when Y-Zone has a more than adequate space for the Boxing Club."
She said that if the Tudorville Youth Club does close and the building is sold the money accrued will go back into the 'pot' in Hereford and will be lost to Children's Services.
