Ross Tennis Centre hosted an under 12 tournament on October 19th. with ten players competing in a round robin event, two groups of five players, each playing seven games per match, to qualify for the semi-finals.
After some very close matches the top two players in each group progressed to the semis. They were, Christian Porter who played Alfie Oliver-Davies, and Michael Evans who played his younger brother Andrew.
After some excellent play, Christian and Michael progressed to the final. All of the competitors stayed to watch the final which was decided by playing a short set, the first to six games.
Christian made a determined start, winning the opening two games, but Michael fought back to level the match. The following games were closely contested, but it was Christian who eventually prevailed, taking the title 6 - 3.
The presentations followed, and prizes were given to all the competitors. Christian received the trophy, Michael the runners up plate; Andrew Evans received the top Under 10 medal and Toby Hiram won the greatest effort and attitude award.
The Centre is grateful to Val Davies for organising and running the event and to all the parents for their support and refreshments!
