Council officials will be taking action to ensure the owners of a site in Brookend Street stop the ongoing deterioration of the area and make improvements.
Ross Councillors have been very concerned that Brookend Street properties associated with the 'stalled' Aldi supermarket plans have been allowed to deteriorate. Cllr Atkinson, in particular, was concerned that Aldi appear to be making no progress towards developing the site whilst the visual impact on Ross of the deteriorating buildings worsens.
Councillor Atkinson was delighted when the Herefordshire Council Enforcement Officer agreed that the condition of the buildings harm the amenity of this part of Ross.
He told Councillors at the meeting of Ross Town Council on Monday, June 11th:?"This is a result of the last Localities meeting - It will be much better for visitors to Ross especially those coming into that end of town."
The Enforcement Officer said that it is anticipated that work may begin on the Aldi development early next year, but in the meantime the site owners have been asked to carry out the following by the end of July:
• Remove all weeds to road frontage and side elevation facing public car park entrance. Include the vegetation growing between the garage and old shop buildings.
• Strip peeling paint from brickwork and timberwork to the road frontage and side elevation facing public car park entrance and repaint.
• Paint all boards covering windows with white gloss anti-graffiti paint
If this work is not carried out formal action may be considered.
