Discarded syringes in the gutter near to the Youth Centre in Hill Street sparked concern from residents on Monday evening. A picture was posted on the Ross-on-Wye Notice board Facebook Page with the message: “Pic forwarded from a friend who doesn’t have Facebook.

This is at the side of the youth centre in Ross by the crofts. Thought best warn parents whose children go there.”

One of the Administrators of the page explained that discarded needles need to be reported to Herefordshire Council by telephoning 01432 261800.

They advise anyone finding a discarded needle or syringe not to touch it or try to move it themselves.

The Herefordshire Council website says: “If you find one somewhere public, such as in a street or park, call us immediately on 01432 261800. We will arrange to have it quickly and safely removed.

“If you find a syringe, needle or drug paraphernalia in the grounds of a school or other educational establishment, report it to the staff there. They are trained to safely dispose of these items.”

Local resident Rachel Woods contacted the Ross Gazette and said: “Very sad to see this, especially at the Youth Club where young will come into contact with this sad and very sadly growing habit.”

The Ross Gazette understands that the syringes were safely disposed of after they had been reported.
