Dear Editor,
My grandson has quadro cerebral palsy, he is now eight-years-old, he has a blue badge which we only ever use correctly.
Blue badges are given out due to mobility issues. We have problems parking too, I believe a lot of the problems are that the user isn’t necessarily the holder.
Supermarket parking is very often a nightmare, the holder is often sat in the vehicle while the able bodied person is shopping or an able bodied driver prefers the wider space to protect their car, without thought for anyone else, this is illegal. The rules are national not just for Ross.
I believe the photo of the badge holder should be shown on the blue badge so that it is clear who the disabled person is. If they’re using the badge correctly they have every right to park according to the rules, if not they should be punished, life for us is hard enough and surely, as an able bodied person, you can use any of the many car parks in Ross-on-Wye.
Walk a mile in his shoes before criticising, but also make sure the badge is being used correctly and for the right person.
