The two town guides are looking for more help in the coming months, especially over the Easter weekend, as both the usual volunteers are unavailable at that time.
The friendly town guides greet visitors to Ross-on-Wye and help them out in any way they can; such as providing directions. The volunteers work for two or more hours on any day during the week. As there are more visitors about on Fridays and Saturdays, if volunteers can give up their time on these days, it is greatly appreciated.
A smiling face is, by far, the main requirement for the role. Volunteers should also have a good knowledge of the town itself; visitors frequently ask the guides where the nearest toilets are, and where to park.
Vic Lockley, one of the town guides, told the Ross Gazette:?“The best part is the satisfaction you get helping your town.”
Vic started the town guides in August last year as there was no tourist information point at that time.
Anyone interested in helping the town guides, by volunteering their time should contact Mary Sinclair Powell at the information centre, below the Corn Exchange, the Town Council office in High Street, or, you can call Keith or Vic on 01989 564383.
