A GROUP of kind-hearted volunteers who are working flat out creating essential equipment for healthcare workers are appealing for help.
For the Love of Scrubs Herefordshire was launched a few weeks ago calling on residents to make scrub bags, headbands and scrub caps out of old pillowcases and sheets for hospital staff.
And since then the group has been inundated with requests are now appealing for help with sewing, deliveries and sourcing materials.
Alison Feist, a volunteer, said: “This started with one lady setting up a Facebook page for volunteers to make scrub bags, headbands and scrub caps. In less than a month, more than 1,000 pieces were made and distributed.
“In the last couple of days nursing and care homes have made contact for supplies including 150 headbands and now the Wye Valley Trust has approached us for help to make 2,500 gowns and 1,000 French seamed scrub bags.
“This is growing beyond any initial thoughts.”
A business in Leominster, which closed because of the coronavirus outbreak, has reopened its doors to cut out and sew the gowns and Doughties in Hereford has donated supplies.
For the Love of Scrubs has launched an online fundraising appeal to raise as much money as possible to pay for materials to make scrubs and gowns.
Volunteers are also on the hunt for anyone who has a sewing machine and would like to help as well as cutters and people to help deliver items.
Accessories including buttons, elastic, cords, cotton and bobbins are also being sought after by the group.
