Francis George Woodward (64) from Whitchurch, near Ross-on-Wye, appeared in Hereford Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, July 14th.

He pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage to property valued under £5000, and also to the use of threatening, abusive and insulting words and behaviour, with an intent to cause fear.

This followed an incident in Whitchurch, near to the Primary School, on Friday, June 10th. Mr Woodward was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and for causing criminal damage.

On the day of the incident, parents and guardians were collecting their children at the end of the school day. A witness called the Ross Gazette office claiming that the man, Mr Woodward, had put an axe through the windcreen of a parent’s car.

Mr Woodward was ordered to pay a £250 fine, with £250 in compensation, a victim surcharge of £30, and costs of £135 to the Crown Prosecution Service.
