MONDAY, January 21st was Blue Monday, the most depressing day of the year according to some. Last Friday, however, was a White Friday in Ross-on-Wye. The forecasts warned it was coming leading to panic buying in the shops last Thursday afternoon. Shelves quickly emptied of milk and bread before the snow arrived by the snowplough-full in the early hours creating havoc on the roads. On Friday local schools remained closed for the day although students determined to sit examinations at John Kyrle High School made it in. Many rural areas surrounding Ross were blocked, prompting many to travel in a variety of unusual ways.
