Tracy Moseley, the UK's top ranked downhill mountain biker, and one of the world's best in this challenging 'extreme' sport, visited the John Kyrle High School recently to officially open their new bike shed. Fresh from finishing second at the World Championships and second in the World Cup Series Tracy made time to inspire the students to both cycle to school and to get out and enjoy riding in and around Ross.
Tracy cut the ribbon on the new bike shed which houses 40 bikes and is covered by CCTV. The name (the 'WyeBike') was chosen by students and the logo designed by a year 9 student, Ryan Page. The project was funded by the schools Travel Plan with additional sponsorship from Climb on Bikes, Hereford. With local design and manufacturing by A J Lowther & Son of Ross. It forms part of the school's commitment to sustainability.
Luke Moseley, teacher at JKHS, said "Cycling forms a central part of our push to improve the health of our students. Not only that but by increasing cycling we're also acting to reduce congestion on the road and the carbon footprint of the school run as a whole. The WyeBike has been a huge success and it's resulted in a 100% increase in the number of students cycling to school".
