Recently the Ross Gazette featured an article regarding the Marathon Des Salmon, whereby three local runners will soon attempt to run 150 miles in six days from the source to the mouth of the River Wye, carrying all of their food, water and equipment, and sleeping in a tent each night.
They are hoping to raise a significant amount through sponsorship, and the fundraising will be split between the Wye and Usk Foundation; a charity that preserves the river and its habitat - and the Ty Hafan Children’s Hospice.
One of the main sponsors of this mammoth run is the Herefordshire-based Wye Valley Brewery, who take their own environmental responsibility seriously, and are passionate about doing all they can to protect the stunning Wye Valley region.
With plans to make this an inaugural event, Wye Valley Brewery, Managing Director, Vernon Amor, expressed his support: “As a green brewer, we are passionate about supporting the environment and our namesake the River Wye, and of equal importance is supporting local causes. We are so pleased to be raising funds for Ty Hafan Children’s Hospice and Wye and Usk Foundation, whose ongoing conservation work to protect our rivers is vital.
“We see this very much as a long-term project and believe that in years to come this race could become as popular as the Marathon Des Sables, just not as hot!”
The brewery team will be on hand to cheer the runners in at the finish on Saturday, June 2nd, and to provide a much-deserved cold beer. Wye Valley Brewery will also be donating a group brewery tour experience at a follow-up Charity auction at Mynd Park, Herefordshire in June.
The race starts in Plynlimon near Aberystwyth on the May 27th and will run through Rhyader, Builth Wells, Hay, Ross-on-Wye and Monmouth, ending in Chepstow on the June 2nd.
