Possible Future Town Councillor and current Chairman of the Ross Youth Forum, Ricky Barlow, age 14, requested a meeting with the Mayor and the Clerk of Ross Town Council to discuss the possibility of a cinema in the town.
As a result of discussions within the Youth Forum Ricky felt many people would like to see a cinema in Ross and he wanted to discuss the matter to see what the Town Council could do to help them.
Ricky had gathered a great deal of information about where people would like to see a cinema, the sort of films that would be shown and how much people would be prepared to pay. He also told the Mayor that he thought a cinema would give youngsters in the town somewhere to go rather than hanging around the streets.
According to the results of his survey Ricky said that most people thought that the former Woolworths store would be a ideal location. As a builder the Mayor, John Davies, was able to explain that the cost of converting a store like Woolworths into a cinema would be prohibitive.
Denise Mason, the Town Clerk, suggested various local organisations they could approach for more funding. She said:?"There are little pots of money everywhere which you could access as a charity but which are not available to the Town Council."
She also reminded them that Town Councillor Jenny Hyde is also a County councillor and the Cabinet Member for Childrens' Services and they could approach her for help.
