Ross Golf Club's Annual Seniors Championship determines the top Senior Golfer (over 60) in the Club and is the only medal format played by the Seniors in their events programme. On the day 83 entrants were found striving to win two cups; being the Carton-Kelly Cup for the best gross performance and the Marsh-Allan Trophy reaching the best nett scorer. Former 2010 Seniors Champion 8 handicapper, Gwynne Morgan must have thought that he might have added another Trophy to his extensive cupboard when his gross 76 score was recorded. However, it was matched by 11 handicapper and former Seniors Captain Tim Rigden and under the rules of the event, Gwynne and Tim must now play another 18 holes gross medal round to decide who will receive the Cup at the Club's Presentation evening in September. Hugh Elliott with a gross 80, Jim Wilkinson gross 81 and gross 82's by Doug David, John Hebdon, Ian Caves, Dave Hart and Doug Duncanson were all highly creditable performers.
In fact Tim Rigden will have already booked his place at the Presentation evening for his gross 76, nett 65 medal score has won him the Marsh Allan Trophy and Tim will have the opportunity to win both gross and nett top spots if he is successful in his play-off match against Gwynne, a rare achievement which has occurred on just a handful of occasions. Graeme Forrester with nett 66 was runner-up followed by Eric Stephens and Allen Mawby with nett 68s and Tim Merritt, John Tecke and David Whitehead will have been pleased with their nett 69's as will have Peter Landau, David Crocker, Gerald Turner and David Every with their nett 70s.
In a Club match friendly Skipper Terry Jarrett and his team entertained counterparts from Enville Golf Club and the Ross scorers in a 4-2 home win were Lee Cartwright/Chris Merriman 4/3, James Morgan/Clive Whitson 5/4, Dave Ruff/James Hay 3/2 and Dave Hart/Gwynne Morgan 1 up.
