On Friday, 21st June, Ross Cricket Club hosted pupils from local primary schools in its annual Chance to Shine Tournament in glorious, perfect for cricket!
This year 65 children, in eight teams, played Kwik cricket, with volunteers umpiring and scoring the games.
Walford Primary and Ashfield Park Primary both entered three teams and Bridstow Primary were represented by two teams.
Like most grass roots clubs, Ross Cricket Club depends on the support of its members, the generosity of sponsors and the goodwill of the community. Encouraging children to participate in sport is an ongoing challenge. But promoting a healthy lifestyles is at the heart of the club's mission. The club reaches out to local primary schools through the Chance to Shine programme which is funded by the Cricket Foundation and government support through Sport England. This national initiative funds high-quality coaching in curriculum time to give every child the chance to experience cricket as a fun, inclusive sport which is open and accessible to all.
