THE Daffs fell to a 2-1 defeat away to mid-table Brimscombe and Thrupp on Saturday, but stay fifth in Hellenic League One.

The Stroud-based hosts went in front on 13 minutes, a half-clearance from a ball driven across the box falling to Jake Love on the edge of the six-yard area who fired home.

But they only led 1-0 at the break thanks to the width of the post, Dylan Hart hitting the woodwork after Newent pressure.

And seven minutes into the second period, a fantastic corner found Kyle Taylor in space to tap home for 1-1.

Three minutes later, Newent were indebted to a great Jonty Scott flying save from a free-kick.

But he couldn’t stop the hosts on 62 minutes, when an attack down the left in driving rain ended with James Piatek drilling the ball into the left-hand corner from the edge of the box.

Taylor went close to levelling with a shot that whistled just wide before Hart blazed over, but the hosts held on for three points.

Newent visit Bourton Rovers on Saturday, and other games include – Ruardean Hill v Wick, Mitcheldean v Hardwicke, Lydbrook v Dursley, Howle Hill v Holme Lacy (Weston), Woolaston v Longhope, Ellwood v Huntley, Sling v Ross Juniors (St Briavels).
