LUKE Jones, our local motor bike road racer, was competing at Olton Park at the weekend, in the MCE British Superbike Championship. Despite a crash, he rode his Triumph 675 in the Supersport Class competed in two races on Saturday and Sunday. On Friday, Luke had two free practise sessions, which gave him and the team time to sort out a few problems. Saturday morning was qualifying for grid positions for the sprint ten lap race in the afternoon, but Luke had a crash at Shell hairpin, which put him in the medical centre for treatment to his arm and cuts to his hands. His time for qualifying was seventh fastest which put him on the third row of the grid. Luke rode well and finished in sixth place. For the Sunday 15 lap ride, Luke was on third row of the grid. He made a good start lying fifth before moving into fourth place and held that position to the finish. Full report in this week's Gazette.
