THE latest event in Ross Golf Club's men's 55 and over seniors section programme witnessed a full 79-member start-sheet operating from both 1st and 10th tees in their Christmas Singles 16 holes stableford competition, which was followed by a festive lunch.
The occasion was blessed with much appreciated sunny winter golfing conditions helped by excellent greens at the Gorsley-based course.
Starting from the 10th tee, 13 handicapper Jon McGinley quickly found his rhythm and some accurate ball striking and putting resulted in six pars on his opening seven holes.
An 18 points total at that stage was a real advantage which proved crucial as he continued his consistent play on his front nine holes with a further five pars and a birdie.
HIs 40 points total ultimately saw Jon at the top of the final score-sheet alongside Geoff Robinson.
While Geoff matched Jon's score with an equally impressive round which contained one birdie and nine pars, he just missed out on the top spot on count-back.
Chris Tweedale and Allen Mawby followed with 38 points each, then David Williams, Bill Knapper and John Hall with 37 points each and a host of 36 pointers represented by David Bridges, Geoff Baker, David Price and Dave Roberts.
Seniors Captain Doug Graham welcomed the opportunity to 'help others' by organising a raffle to further benefit his dedicated charity, St Michael's Hospice, and joined everyone in their appreciation of the excellent Christmas fare provided by the Ross Golf Club caterer John Devine and his team.
The club posted a CCTV still of the van and said other clubs in the area had been broken into in recent weeks.
