THE hot weather may have gone but the usual strong southerly wind played its regular part for the eight riders in Thursday evening's 10 mile time trial.
First place was taken by Simon Harradine of Team Echelon Rotor, in spite of a mechanical issue which slowed him. First Ross rider was Steve Millard coming back to form with a good run out to the turn at Preston Cross after a couple of poor weeks.
An improving Matt Fallon was quick up the final climb and should be in good shape for next week's handicap event with his third place from Gannet CC's Jonny Webb.
The next places were some way off the pace as the wind took its toll, Ross' James Wilson getting the verdict from Climb on Bikes Tom Knight, with Nigel Skyrme uncharacteristically down on speed in seventh place. Spare a thought for club chairman Mark Lavington who elected to use conventional wheels due to the wind and suffered a blow out of the rear tyre just before the start leaving him unable to ride. He probably wished he'd left the disc wheel in, at least it went low speed rather than the fast downhill section.
The final 10 miler of the season is at Old Gore on Thursday, August 22nd, and is a handicap event. The start is at 7pm with signing on from 6.30pm.
