It is universally recognized by members of Ross Golf Club that if the name of one person is synonymous with the existence of their exceptional 'Jewels in the West' tree-lined woodland course at what used to be known as Two Park Wood in Gorsley, that name will always be Bill Bishop.
Bill, a Vice President, a former Club Captain on two separate occasions and Chairman of the Club's Greens Committee for almost 30 years, passed away in 2013 having spent the large majority of his remarkable 101 years life in the service of the Golf Course that he so much adored. It was entirely fitting and very much appreciated by everyone that Bill's daughter, Jane should generously present the Club with a lovely Acer tree and suitably engraved plate, enabling her dear father's name to live in perpetuity alongside the Club's 18th fairway.
Members gathered recently to commemorate and celebrate the planting of the tree by Course Manager, Robert Wilband. Club Vice President, John Gabb spoke eloquently and interestingly about his close friend covering a wide range of Bill's golfing achievements and how his vitality and vision inspired others to make the Ross Course of today, such a unique and meaningful golfing experience.
