AT the Bowls England Ladies’ Triples Championships in August, Sue Dix, Marcia Gwynne & Jenny Murray reached the quarterfinals, and Kate Williams & Amy Richards of Ledbury BC reached the Under 25 pairs quarterfinals. In the Men’s Championships Martin Smith (Senior Singles), Dave Magness (Senior Pairs), Jerry Watkins (Two Wood Singles), Henry Watkins (Junior Singles) and Dan Palmer (Men’s County Singles Champion) had excellent performances in their rounds.
Ross Men are the County Hfd Times Cup Champions, having beaten Eastnor BC in the final at Bulmers BC on the 30 July. Marcia Gwynne became this year’s Ladies’ County Champion of Champions; the competition was played at Leominster BC on September 2nd, where she played three rounds to become the overall County Champion. On Sunday, September 3rd the Triples rinks of Ross Ladies, who were Lynda Evans, Gwen Lambert & Mary Gardner (skip), and Sue Dix, Linda Lewis (playing reserve) Marcia Gwynne & Jenny Murray (skip), won the Kington Shield, having beat Bodenham BC in the semi-finals and Brimfield BC in the final, after winning the very last end.
Ross ‘A’ came a very close second in the Hfd Men’s League Division One. RBC Men and Ladies won both their respective competitions in the Wyvern League again this year.
RBC shortly starts the winter season at the Club with weekly short mat competitions in Club and County leagues, along with Skittles, Crib, and Pétanque leagues beginning in October. The Clubs’ Annual Presentation evening this year will be held at the Royal Hotel Ross on October 21st and the Annual General Meeting is on Thursday, November 16th starting at 7.30pm.
