Question: How do you keep over 60 people on four mats happy for a day?
Answer: You play Short Mat Bowls.
And that is what Fownhope Bowls Club’s 11th Open Fours event did to help raise over £600 this year for the Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospital’s Special Baby Care Unit, with 16 teams from Clubs across Herefordshire and Gloucestershire taking part.
Winners of the event were Ross-on-Wye Bowling Club and the Llangarron 1 Team, who collected the winners Shield and runners-up Plate Awards respectively, as well as individual trophies kindly donated by the Fownhope Bowls Club sponsors Wye Leisure. Hazel Smith, on behalf of Arthur & Margaret Williams of Wye Leisure, presented the winning teams their prizes.
The Fownhope Bowls Club members put together an excellent day of bowling, enjoyment and camaraderie for everyone concerned, with refreshments served all day and a grand raffle including a ’Mediterranean Medley’ hamper together with many donated prizes from the participating Clubs.
