Ross Under 15s completed a convincing win at Canon Frome on Monday, May 21st.

Ross batted first and openers Adam Davies and Mikey Nixon scored at a good initial run rate, reaching 20 in just three overs, Nixon thumping a six over square leg.

The home bowlers began to excert more control, frustrating the batsman, resulting in Nixon offering a return catch to Harrison-Walker. Davies struggled to avoid fielders, but along with Tai Minnie, took on the field well between the wickets to keep the scoreboard ticking.

Adam did strike four good straight drives to accelerate Ross’ innings and he retired not out upon reaching 53. Alastair Cook and later Ethan Lerego joined Minnie to score at more than a run a ball; Ross finishing on 134 from 20 overs, Tai unbeaten on 17.

The weather threatened to curtail the match prematurely, so tea was delayed until after the Canon Frome innings. The Ross bowlers and fielders wasted no time, taking nine wickets in just eight overs and two balls.

Chloe Tingle continued her fabulous start to the 2018 season, in both junior and senior cricket, by clean bowling two batsmen in her first over. Chloe then claimed two run outs, throwing accurately into the gloves of ‘keeper Ali Cook. Ben Fletcher also followed up his fine bowling performance with the Ross Senior side at the weekend by bowling Canon Frome’s numbers six and seven.

Alexander Springer took three wickets in just eight balls to finish the innings, albeit with some help, when two full tosses were lofted towards the safe hands of captain Adam Davies. The home side had scored just 15, giving Ross a winning margin of 119 runs.

Ross U15s, sponsored by Now Storage Limited, faced Monmouth Cricket Club U15s in the ECB knock-out cup the day after the Canon Frome game.
