It was a trip to Worcester and a fixture with Old Vigornians 2nd XI for Wormelow 2nd XI, who have enjoyed a decent start to the season. Skipper Jordan Reading won the toss and elected to field first.
It proved to be a tough day in the field for Wormelow as home openers Thompson (74) and Drew (118) compiled a first wicket stand of 147 before paceman James Powell (1-46) picked up the first wicket of the day. Number 3 Launchbury-Thomas (56) also contributed well as a large total was built. Youngster Alex Whittall (2-70) picked up a couple of quick wickets with Reading (1-59) adding another as Old Vigornians finished on an imposing 318-4 from their 50 overs.
In reply Wormelow suffered an early setback when Robbie Stonadge (9) departed with the score on 13. Alex Lane (38) and Owen Jones (20) both batted well as Wormelow set about the tough run chase. A classy 46 from Ben Porter gave the visitors some hope and he was well supported by Reading (23) and Whittall (18).
However wickets continued to fall on a regular basis and Wormelow eventually came up well short as they were dismissed for 182 in the 48th over. A tough day for the villagers who will look to return to winning ways when they welcome Evesham 2nd XI to Kennelfield next week.
