ASTON Ingham CC 1sts suffered a rain-hit 61-run league opening day loss at Corse & Staunton.

The visitors won the toss but later had cause to regret putting the hosts in to bat, as they racked up 296-9 off their 50 overs before both Aston openers went for ducks and the weather then made their task even more difficult.

Opener James Dallaway cracked 84 for Corse & Staunton, forming a 124-run stand with third man Ben Morton, who fired 72.

Harrison Tegg with 39, Jack Hutchings 26, Tim Dannatt 25 and Jack Tyrer 20 also contributed, while Aston's Toby O'Neill took 4-48 off 10 overs, backed by single wickets for Mohamed Dilshad, Sam Didcote and Tim Dulson.

Openers Gus Carini-Roberts and Ollie Henson then departed without scoring as the visitors made the worst possible start, the former run out and the latter caught.

With rain sweeping in, Aston's reply was also cut to 24 overs with a target of 138, but they never really got going, Anthony James scoring 35 not out and Craig Baker an unbeaten 24 as they finished on 76-3.

Aston's other three games were all brought to premature ends by the rain.

Jimmy Davies fired 65 for the 2nds at home to Ruardean Hill 1sts backed by Joshua Henson 28 and Will Green 27, as they made 219-8 off 40 overs.

Hill then reached 43-3 before their innings ended on 11 overs, Jenson Arrowsmith with two wickets, and Jack Carpenter the other.

The 3rds bowled out hosts Alvington & Woolaston 1sts for 167 in 39.3 overs, Isaac Goulding taking four wickets and Charlie O'Neill and Philip Leighton two apiece, but the visitors were denied any time in the middle.

And the 4ths were in the box seat at home to the same club's 2nds after scoring 202-8 when their visitors' innings was truncated at 32-3.

Billy Davies top-scored with 35, backed by Andrew Leighton 27 and William King 25, while Mike Cluley took all three wickets for 16 runs off six overs.

Goodrich 1sts set a 40-over target of 229-8 at home to Cricklade, James O'Brien scoring 35, Jack Waldis 22, Sam Griffiths 21, Chris Tookey 20 and Joe Provis 19 not out.

But they were stopped in their tracks with the visitors on 58-3, Neil Price taking all three wickets for 27 runs off six overs.

The 2nds won by six wickets though away to Ruardean Hil 2nds, dismissing the hosts for 113 in 28 overs before comfortably reaching 116-4 in 22.2 overs.

Ralph Heaven-Richards and Alex Parker took three wickets each for Goodrich, and Colin Walker and Heaven-Richards carried their bats with 36 and 30 respectively.

Newent 1st XI dismissed hosts Frampton-on-Severn for 180 with the last ball of their 40 overs in Gloucestershire 5, Freddie Fabian taking three wickets and Jack Cowles and Josh Hayes two apiece.

And they had reached 30 without loss in 10 overs when the rain began and the match was called off.

Newent Lions set a superb 254-4 off their 40 overs at home to Ullenwood Bharat 3rds, Luke Merchant firing 72, Gwyn Evans 52, Jack Griffiths 35 not out and Bradley Smith an unbeaten 25.

But they were also denied by the weather, with proceedings halted with the visitors on 62-1 off 12 overs.
