ROSS CC won a nail-biting 600-run league battle at Presteigne by just one wicket on Saturday, Muhammed Noufal Fazaludeen firing 109 and Kiran Krishnan 71 in an epic run chase.
The Powys hosts racked up a mountainous 308-7 off their 45 overs, Alex Springer taking two wickets for 30 off nine overs, Krishnan 2-45-9 and Dee Springer 2-53-5.
In reply, opener Albert Johnson holed out for one, but any thoughts that Ross weren't up to the challenge in the Worcestershire Division 9 clash were soon dispelled, as third man Fazaludeen set about the hosts' attack with relish, backed by Springer with 34.
The latter's departure brought Krishnan to the crease to add impetus to the chase, and Sachin Anil then joined the party with 39.
Ross were well up on the run rate, but a couple of late ducks saw them down to just one wicket before skipper Jim Lewis saw them over the line to 309-9 with an unbeaten 10 and five overs to spare.
In midweek, Ross weren't so successful, losing their opening Forest Hundred clash by 53 runs at home to fellow Wyesiders Penallt & Redbrook.
The villagers reached 120-3 in their hundred balls, Fazaludeen, Jack Bowden and Charlie Bowden with the wickets.
The hosts then reached 32-1 and 51-2 in reply, but three wickets for only one ball then saw the wheels come off, with Ross all out for 67 with four balls left, only opener Mike Willis with 18 and Fazaludeen 12 troubling the scoreboard.
And they will want to bounce back in the limited over format tonight (Wednesday, May 13) when they host Ruardean Hill, start 6pm, before travelling to Moccas on Saturday (May 16) for a Worcestershire League match.
Meanwhile, Goodrich won their Forest Hundred opener by three wickets at home to derby rivals Aston Ingham, Megan Jones taking a brilliant five for 16 and a run out.
The visitors, who made the last eight of the National Village Cup two years ago, suffered no less than five ducks as the Goodrich attack laid waste, dismissing them for 91 with nine balls left, with only 10th man Oliver Kelsall with 19 and Dan Smith 13 reaching double figures.
Alongside Jones, Ryan Ward took two wickets and Harry Mutlow and Alexander Parker one apiece.
And skipper Chris Tookey with an unbeaten 30, Ben Fletcher 12 and Andy Waldis 10 then saw them to 92-7 with five balls to spare.
Goodrich weren’t so successful at the weekend though, missing out by 51 runs away to Gloucester 2nds in Gloucestershire Division 5.
The hosts set a 40-over target of 201-6, with Tookey, Parker, Ward and Neil Price each taking a wicket alongside two run outs.
But despite 62 from Tookey, 23 from skipper Harry Porter and 18 not out from Matt Young, the visitors were all out for 150 in the 33rd over.
The 2nds were also tonked at home by Tewkesbury 3rds by nine wickets, all out for 73 in 19 overs before the visitors raced to 78-1 in 11.5 overs.
Goodrich visit Tintern Monks in the Hundred tonight, before hosting Bibury on Saturday, when the 2nds are away to Redmarley 2nds.
