FORMER John Kyrle pupil Will Biggs was celebrating after his Worcester RFC team beat Bedford 27-14 in the Championship play-off final.

The former Coventry RFC hooker, who signed for the relaunched professional Sixways outfit last year, played 15 games during an injury-hit season, and has signed again for 2027/27.

Warriors finished fourth in the regular season but shocked previously-unbeaten table-toppers Ealing Trailfinders in the play-off semi-finals – and then beat second-placed Bedford at their Goldington Road ground.

Victory caps a remarkable turnaround for Worcester, who were expelled from the Premiership in the 2022-23 season after financial issues and then disbanded.

The club finally reformed in time for last season, but will remain in the second tier next term after promotion and relegation were scrapped.

Hartpury University graduate Will, who also played at Drybrook and Ledbury, posted: “This time last year, this group of lads didn't know each other, let alone play a game together... Nine months later, lifting the Champ trophy is an amazing achievement and a testament to everyone involved, from staff, coaches, and players .

“To represent my local club at this level has been insane and something I'd never have imagined.

“Unfortunately having to have a double level spinal fusion wasn't on my bingo card at the beginning of the season, but I'm looking forward to the rehab journey and getting back on the pitch.”
