Ross U15 XI put their recent cup exit at the hands of Colwall behind them, beating Canon Frome by nine wickets on Monday, June 12th.

Canon Frome won the toss but immediately faced Ross’ accurate attack of Adam Davies, Chloe Tingle and Cameron Hill. Davies bowled two of the top three out in his three overs, conceding just five runs.

Ethan Lerego’s spin accounted for three middle order batsmen, and there would have been more but for some catches being put down by the Ross fielders. Adam Parkes did hold on to an excellent diving catch at slip, the ball having been deflected by wicket keeper Alastair Cook.

Ben Fletcher bowled well conceding no runs, and he caught Arthur Harris (38) well from the bowling of captain George Aubrey. Harris was the only Canon Frome player to reach double figures in an innings total of 77.

Ross’ reply began with the usual ’adventurous’ running between the wickets from openers Adam Davies and Alastair Cook, but after Davies was caught at fine leg, the innings was dominated by Cook (38*) and Alexander Springer (31*) who put together a partnership of 69, striking 11 fours between them.

A fortnight earlier, Ross had conspired to help Colwall overcome a total of 111 to knock Ross, the holders, out of the Herefordshire Cup. Ethan Lerego had scored an unbeaten 50, aided by Morgan Wainewright, a Goodrich player who helpfully stepped into the Ross side covering some holiday absentees. While they were pleased with the score, Ross felt they had left a few runs out on the field, putting themselves under pressure to restrict a strong looking Colwall line up. Adam Davies removed the two Colwall openers with the score on just 13, but a frustrating third wicket partnership between Jake Hughes (47*) and Mark Koliasnikoff saw the home team through to a seven wicket win.

Ross bowled 24 wides and no balls, and with a couple of catches not being taken, could not complain about losing the game.

Ross travel to Colwall again next Monday for the league encounter.
