Ross suffered a six wicket defeat to local rivals and fellow strugglers Brockhampton at the weekend, a defeat which sees the Hedgehogs drop to the bottom of the Marches League table and, with just three fixtures remaining, a dramatic turnaround in form will be needed to arrest the slide.
Ross were asked to bat after Jim Lewis lost the toss and the Ross top order was blown away by opening bowlers, Aiden Webb and Adam Herbert, who reduced the visitors to 28-5 in the first thirteen overs of the innings. Charlie Cole, who had opened the batting, battled for eighteen overs before being superbly caught for 17 and with Ross 41-7 a very early finish was on the cards.
However, Stu Mair and Paul Morris dug in and put on 44 for the eighth wicket before Mair departed for 21. Morris continued untroubled and, helped by Alex Davies (9), took the score to 114 before the last two wickets were lost in the final over to see Ross finally post a total of 116 all out which represented a brilliant late order recovery. Paul Morris finished unbeaten on 31, with Herbert’s figures of 3-11 from his ten overs being the pick of the bowlers for Brockhampton.See the full story in this week’s edition of the Ross Gazette, or subscribe to our online edition here
