Ross won the South Herefordshire U15 Cricket League for 2018 with a game to spare, by eventually overhauling Canon Frome on Monday 16th July.
Ross had won four from four in the league, and were guilty of thinking too much about their overwhelming victory at Canon Frome earlier in the season when the hosts were bowled out for just 14 runs.
Looking to redeem themselves, Frome elected to bat first and opener Marcus Richards coped well with the swing from Adam Davies and Chloe Tingle, moving the score quickly to 50 in the first ten overs, for the loss of just one wicket.
Ross helped the Canon Frome cause, starting with some attacking field placings, which soon became more defensive as the gaps were found, and extras was to become the second highest scorer, with 22 wides being bowled.
Some reliable catching from Adam Parkes, and Mikey Nixon (whilst nursing a swollen thumb) taking two excellent scalps on the long off boundary, helped Ross control the run rate a little, before George Harris plundered 26 runs from just eight deliveries to leave Canon Frome with 133 runs from their 20 overs.
Having had the wake up call they needed, Ross’ reply started well with a 50 partnership between Davies and Ali Cook in the first seven overs.
Ethan Lerego scored a strong hitting 38 alongside Cook (also 38) and later, Alex Springer (21) with some opportunistic running between the wickets, which unfortunately also resulted in two run outs.
The loss of two more wickets in the final four overs caused more concern for Ross, but Adam Parkes and Chloe Tingle guided their team home with five balls in hand.
Canon Frome took heart that they had pushed Ross much more than they had in the first game, but the win leaves Ross at the top of the table with a place booked in the North South final in August. Ross have done their sponsor, Now Storage, proud with their league performance.
