The recent early morning frosts meant that Ross Golf Club's Annual Burns Trophy and Len Weston qualifier needed to be played on temporary greens, although this only marginally influenced the quality of performance required on the day to win this major competition.

Over 100 members took part and with the tees located at their most demanding, the 42 stableford points scored by 9 handicapper Danny Gear to win the Trophy represented a high quality achievement. With 13 pars and a birdie and seven of the pars scored consecutively on his back nine holes to complete his round, this determined Danny as the ultimate winner. Count-back was needed after 15 handicapper Andrew Moore also carded a very impressive 42 stableford points score.

This will be the second Honours' Board achievement in recent years for Danny, having won the Centenary Cup.

The competition also determines the eight qualifying players who now go forward, on a knock-out basis, to compete for the Club's Annual Len Weston Cup. The final of this event takes place on the Club's Championship Finals day in September. Danny Gear and Andrew Moore will therefore be joined by Simon Buck and Andrew Baldwin who both scored 41 points, Roger Beaman with 40 pts, Tim Rigden with 39 pts and Craig Newman and Colin Bennion who both scored 38 pts.
