This week Ross CC's Second XI entertained Five Ways Old Edwardians CC at The Park in the Worcester League. The visitors won the toss and elected to bat. Opener Laura Hill's wicket was first to fall, caught by Ben Element off twin brother Josh's bowling for 3. Jonathon Tovey was joined by George Leech and the score ticked along to 50 before Tovey (10) was out caught by Josh Element off Charlie Cole's bowling. George Leech (30), Minahil Zahoor (31), Naqeeb Majid (38*) and Alan Dabbs (33) all contributed to the total of 247 for 7 after 45 overs. Josh Element (9-1-26-2) and Charlie Cole (9-0-55-3) were the pick of the bowlers. After tea, Ross took to the field with openers Mike Jeffryes and skipper Keith Flitton and the scoreboard ticked over nicely until Flitton fell victim to Naqeeb Majid. Jim Lewis added a welcome 20 runs and Ross were 106 for 2. With the score at 108, Mike Jeffryes was bowled by Jonathan Tovey for a well-struck (57). Ben Element stepped up to the crease in good touch to add (48) before being bowled by Nicky Preston, who proceeded to also dismiss Josh Element (17) and Richard Jeffryes. The tail did not wag and Ross were all out for 208. J Holmes, N Majid, S Firth, J Tovey and N Porter each bagged a wicket but Nicky Preston (7-0-38-3) was the pick of the bowlers. Extras were key in this game and Ross gave away too many.
