Ross Juniors U11s travelled to Ledbury on Saturday and struggled to take the many great chances they created on a tricky pitch, but still managed to secure a win at 5-2.
The visitors had two early chances that fell to Harvey, who was on the left, before Roo was called into action to make a good save in the Ross goal. Ross continued to create chances, and Niall did well as he took on the Ledbury defence only to be denied by the keeper.
The visitor’s pace up front, with Harvey and Niall, really caused Ledbury trouble, and Ross eventually took the lead when Bill played a perfect through ball for Harvey to race onto and score.
Ross almost doubled their lead when Luca found Jake in a crowded penalty area but Jake’s shot struck the post and bounced clear. There were further chances for Harvey and Niall but Ledbury managed to keep them out.
Following the first wave of Ross substitutions, Eddie almost scored with his first touches but shot narrowly wide. From the resultant goal-kick, Ledbury equalised as the visitors seemed to switch off and, to top it off, their shot only beat Roo because it took a deflection.
Ledbury then threatened to take the lead, but Roo came out bravely to save at the feet of an opponent. Eddie and Harvey had a couple more chances to score, but it felt like it was going to be one of those days when the opposition’s goal is blessed but right at the end of the half Eddie set up Harvey to put Ross ahead again.
Ross missed an early chance in the second half but Eddie doubled their lead when he rounded the Ledbury keeper. Niall was denied by an excellent save before Ross conceded a poor goal, failing to clear a cross. Then Ledbury almost equalised but Roo made a good save. Niall struck the Ledbury crossbar following a great pass from Sol, and there were blocked shots from Bill and David. Eddie had two great chances to score before he added his second from Bill’s pass.
Ross chalked up their 100th goal of the season right at the death when Luca scored from an acute angle following a good run into the penalty area.
The Harley Finishings man of the match was awarded to Bill.
