The result was not what Ross were looking for but the performance from a depleted side was committed, brave and skillful, and with ten minutes left Ross was only 14-9 down, but a late try took the game and a losing bonus point away from Ross.
Throughout the game, Ross was strong and direct in both attack and defence, with every player contributing in both areas. In very windy conditions, Ross kept the ball in hand driving deep into the Kingswood defence. This brought territory, and with it Kingswood infringements, and a calm Thai Hayward slotted three great penalties in the first half, however it was against the run of play that breakaway tries which saw Kingswood go in at half time 14-9 ahead.
The third quarter even against a strong wind, was once again Ross. They were tenacious in defence with some great tackling from Josh Morgan and Louis Morgan, among many, and with ball in hand Gavin Oates, Casey Morgan and Cameron Summerville kept Ross on the front foot, but they could not find the score that would edge them in front, and when finally Kingswood did get some territory, they crossed the whitewash, taking away the losing bonus point and the possible victory; the game ended Kingswood 21 Ross 9.
The Ross-on-Wye man of the match was shared between Josh Morgan for his defensive effort and Cameron Summerville for his ball carrying. On Saturday Ross are back in league action at home against Bristol Aero, a 2.30pm kick off.
