Ross-on-Wye Juniors Men 3 - Puma 5
Ross Juniors Men took a break from league action on Saturday to play in the FJ Pope Cup against Puma FC. Ross kicked off and started brightly, certainly playing the best out of the two sides but after 10 minutes they found themselves 1-0 down after the defence switched off.
Ross were soon back in the game when they were awarded a free kick outside the area, Kristian Milnes stepped up to take it. He whipped it in for Callum McCulloch to get his head on it and it went past the keeper to make it 1-1.
After 25 minutes Ross went ahead when Brad Wooding smashed the ball into the roof of the net, from a through ball from McCulloch.
Five minutes later the away side made it two all after a keeper error led to a misjudged bounce over his head, from a ball in midfield.
Ross tried to get back in front and did so when Wooding received the ball. He went for it and placed the ball into the bottom corner.
Ross were putting more pressure on the Puma back line but after a break of play Puma made it 3-3 before the half time whistle.
Ross made a change in the second half to try get more pace on the pitch, with Jones coming off for Thai Haywood. Ross were a bit more positive and they were creating chances, with Jack Bray cutting inside to try get more action on the ball, but it just was not happening for Ross.
Puma made it 4-3 after a counter attack again, the Ross defenders trying to clear the lines but the ball ended in the back of the net.
All the Ross players were now pushing hard, but with Dave Nicholls missing some golden chances they could not put the ball in the back of the net.
Puma then finished the game off with another goal to make the final score line 5-3.
Physio and Health Matters Man of the Match went to Wayne Husbands for his efforts in defence.
Ross are away to Weston on Saturday 2pm KO.
