Ross Juniors produced a magnificent second half display to chalk up their 4th league win in a row.

Neither team could say they played well in the first half, but Lads Club would be the happier after establishing a 1 – 0 lead and forcing a couple of saves from Roo in the Juniors’ goal, although Ross should have taken an early lead in the match when Eddie and Theo combined to create a great chance, but Eddie fired over from close range.

Ross thought they had scored the equaliser early in the 2nd half when Eddie set up Jake, but his shot hit the underside of the crossbar, bounced on the line behind the Panthers’ keeper and was eventually cleared. The visitors were creating a lot of chances down the left with Harvey B, Eddie and Jake combining well. One such chance saw Harvey shoot wide from a tricky angle and minutes later Jake hit a good strike that was well saved.

An equaliser almost came out of nothing as Eddie closed down the Panthers’ keeper following a back-pass and blocked his clearance which resulted in the ball rebounding onto the crossbar. David and Bill were immense in the Ross defence, although one misplaced back pass almost let Lads Club in, but Roo saved the resulting shot and then bravely cleared the ball.

Ross-on-Wye continued to dominate the game and created further chances which saw Eddie fire wide with a good volley from Harvey’s corner and two efforts from Jake that also went wide. Ross finally made the breakthrough thanks to Eddie’s persistence as he robbed the last defender of the ball and comfortably beat the keeper, and minutes later Eddie made it 2 – 1 from close range.

Jake almost made it 3 when he hit a fine strike but the Lads Club keeper made a brilliant save to deny him. Harvey also had a shot saved before Bill scored a wonder goal from 30 yards to make the game safe. There was a final chance for Jake but unfortunately his shot went over the bar, but it had been a very dominant 2nd half performance which probably deserved more reward.

The Masons Fencing & Firewood Man of the Match goes to Eddie Price for a fine performance capped off with two well-taken goals.
