A Crowdfunding page was set up by fans of Hereford FC to help get defender Ryan Green back into fitness for the new season.

The 36-year-old has played for the semi-professional Hereford United team on and off since 2003 and has a strong following locally.

The player has picked up chronic tendonitis in his Achilles which requires treatment before he can play without pain again.

Fans of the club helped to set up a crowdfunding page which raised £910 of its £1,000 target in the first 24 hours of going live.

Speaking about his condition, Ryan said: “I’m really struggling at the moment, I played in pain during the whole game last Saturday.”

He continued: “I had surgery on my Achilles about eight or nine years ago after getting similar symptoms, but I am advised that a cortisone injection should solve it for a year or two.”

Donors on the JustGiving page left messages of support. One wrote: “You’ve been a loyal player and deserve the support now from loyal fans. Get fit soon Greener.” Another said: “We hope that you are back playing soon. A legend!”

At the time of writing the JustGiving page had raised £1,050, smashing its £1,000 target.
