It was another great win for the Ross-on-Wye Juniors, as they beat third placed Coventry Sphinx in a nail biting home game.
Ross had the best of the opening exchanges, but soon Coventry began to impose themselves and took the lead after ten minutes.
Coventry looked to increase their lead, but the Ross back line held firm with Freddie Reynolds, Tommy Hall and man of the match, Will Marshall putting in tough, disciplined performances.
On the half hour Ross equalised, when Elliott Peeters-Vanstone powered in a long-range free kick.
Just before half time, the Juniors took the lead when a Joel Nicholls’ header found Luke, who brushed aside the Coventry defender to score.
In the second half, the visitors attacked in strength and only a goal line clearance from Tommy kept the Juniors in front. But Ross were dangerous on the counter attack, the team soon extended their lead with a superbly taken third goal.
A late penalty brought Coventry back in to the game and the last ten minutes were tense as the visitors sought an equaliser. But the Ross goalie, Josh Ellis, was on fine form and a point blank save with minutes to go sealed the win for the home side.
