NEWENT Town secured a win and a draw last week, including a first clean sheet of the season.

Having made it through to the next round of the FA Vase in a dramatic penalty shoot out win over Almondsbury a week last Saturday, the Daffs travelled to Ludlow for a Hellenic One league clash in midweek.

And Luke Firkin was spot on again when the ref awarded them a first half penalty to lead 1-0.

But the hosts hit back after 60 minutes, Jess Howard heading home the equaliser at the back post, with the final score 1-1 after a late Ludlow red card and the points shared.

On Saturday, the Daffs returned home to Wildsmith Meadow to host Shortwood United and secured all three points 1-0 thanks to a Danny Gaynor strike just before half-time.

Elsewhere, Lydbrook Athletic suffered a 2-1 home loss to Bream Amateurs in Gloucestershire Northern 2 on Saturday, Blaine Smith their scorer.

But newly-promoted Huntley secured a 3-3 draw in the Forest at Mushet & Coalway, Lee James firing a brace and Josh Jeffrey the other.

Newent visit Carterton on Saturday, when Huntley host Minchinhampton, before the Daffs entertain Lydney in a local derby on Bank Holiday Monday (ko 3pm).
