After making the journey to Stratford-upon-Avon, Ross Juniors endured a disappointing 7:4 defeat whilst, at times, playing some wonderful football.
Despite the heavy rain Ross started well and had the best of the early play, taking the lead after 20 minutes when Tommy picked up a through ball and shot past the goalie. Minutes later the score was doubled, Kane powering in a free kick from distance that picked up a wicked deflection before ending in the net.
The Juniors were good value for their lead, pressing high up the field and playing some great football at a fast tempo. After 35 minutes Owain added a third, when a Ross corner caused chaos in the Stratford defence. So far, so good, but then a couple of minutes of defensive madness turned the game on its head. Looking comfortable at 3:0, Ross lost concentration and Stratford took full advantage, scoring twice in as many minutes just before half time.
The home team had the momentum and pulled level virtually from the restart. Ross, so dominant for much of the first half, now struggled to get out of defence and Stratford punished them by scoring three more goals in quick succession.
Joel pulled one back for Ross, but the game was over and finished 7:4 to the home side.
For much of the first half Ross played their best football of the season, but need to learn how to hold on to a lead and close the game down. On Saturday they’re at home, welcoming visitors from Kinver.
