ROSS Juniors Ladies lost out 2-0 at home to Herefordshire Women’s League champions Penybont United in a hard-fought contest on Sunday at the Sports Centre, but are guaranteed third place, with one more game to play on Thursday night (May 15) at home to Ledbury (kick off 7.15pm).

The Penybont keeper was in inspired form winning player of the match plaudits with save after save to deny the home side.

But the visitors were more clinical in front of goal, scoring two goals in the first half before absorbing a ton of Juniors pressure to hold onto their lead.

Ross Ladies can take satisfaction from a great league season though, winning eight, drawing one and losing four, with a chance to close the gap on Wellington in second to a point if they can win their last game.

Juniors Women are also in third in the Mid West Counties Female League with four games left to play.

And they can steal a march on fourth-placed Kidderminster United Women on Sunday (May 18) when they host a six-point double header with them with just a point between the two, and the first game kicking off at 2pm.
